Tragic.
A Message from Medium Rare Music, San Francisco
Hey Everyone,
Medium Rare Music has been a part of the fabric of the Castro District and the city of San Francisco for 20 years and for these past 7 years, we were able to take it to another level and create something even more special by expanding our uniqueness to a world-wide reputation. So it’s with bittersweetness that we tell you we’ll be closing our doors by October 24, 2010. It’s been such an incredible journey over the years and we are very proud of what we’ve accomplished and so grateful to all of you who have made that journey so worthwhile. It was our passion for music that brought us together. Our goal was to share our passion for good, quality music and help others discover, and sometimes rediscover, music they might never have heard if they hadn’t walked into Medium Rare. Sharing that passion, meeting you and providing the opportunity for all of us to meet many of the artists that we’ve all admired for so long has been a dream come true. Where else would you have had the chance to meet such artists from Charo and RuPaul to disco and soul divas Linda Clifford, Freda Payne and Melba Moore to dance divas Kristine W and Jody Watley, Broadway belters Barbara Cook, Ann Hampton Callaway and Julie Budd, to music icons Petula Clark and The Supremes’ Mary Wilson along with many others? So many have asked if downloading effected the business. Although it certainly has made an impact on the music industry as a whole, what Medium Rare had was different. Most of you already know that with downloading from iTunes, Amazon and other mp3 sites, you get poor and inferior sound quality compared with CDs. Due to the high compression, you even miss parts of the song. This past year, we’ve even noticed an increase of customers that had switched to downloading, coming back to CDs because they hadn’t been aware of that and were shocked to discover the difference. For us, it’s mainly our unreasonably high rent combined with the on-going recession and poor economy. So please, come in and help us celebrate our legacy and the great music over these next several weeks! Join us for our final Castro Street Fair is this Sunday - October 3! We’ll continue to place orders with new releases and current stock as well as special orders. We hope you’ll stop by, say hello, hang out and continue your support with us. Now is the time to get all those CDs that you always wanted but have put off for so long! And we’ll still turn you on to new artists and new music! We’ll also continue to take special orders via our web site and hope you’ll keep a look out for a new incarnation of Medium Rare Music. Thank you all of for your support, your loyalty and for the wonderful friendships. You really mean a lot to us. Let’s continue to enjoy the music!
